Something you said earlier too Quote:
I wasn't referring to incremental increases of performance, only maintenance and specifically, people using the idea of breaks or recovery day(s) as an excuse to avoid working at optimal training levels. I was told once I should never workout two days in a row. I was too old to behave like that. This is what I mean about irrational beliefs in the area of training.

", you do it and " " probably more than anyone here. Thought I would try Scooter tactics. Guess it works. I'm TRYING to be helpful here. You are so hung up on "I am an anomoly", "I'm not part of the herd", that it gets kinda old. There's slaughtering sacred cows, and then there's crying out to be seen as unique. If you want to refute, maybe bring up empirical data. Dunno. ![]() It's like a certain poster who frequently brings up how they "have a friend who....". ![]()

i agree there are plenty of irrational beliefs about training and the abilities of the human body.
Where i see rest periods as important are when working for peak performance. which is greatly different than what most people train for. Elite athletes over train, the average person does not. I ran every day for about 3 years. In that time I missed no make that a hand full of days total. I have run in dreadful conditions. But only doing a few miles. That is mostly an endurance exercise though, which is quite different to a muscle building activity. It takes time for muscle fibers to heal, and letting them heal all the way on occasion is beneficial in that kind of activity. it's the old, are you hurt or are you injured question. after a time most reasonable people can determine one from the other. But this comes from a guy who was only a few weeks out of surgery and doing MMA training. Did I do it, yes, was it a smart idea, probably not.
